Anton Bruckner, despite his many strange mannerisms and eccentric habits, was persuaded to teach a three-year course on composing classical music to an assembly of his admirers. When the long curriculum was finally completed, he turned to his students:

“There is no doubt that If you write music in this way, you will surely create great masterpieces. There is no doubt you will more than equal anyone who came before…..” He hesitated then shrugged. “Personally, I do it very differently.”
